At Linsen Nambi, creating a workplace where everyone feels safe, respected, and heard is more than just a policy, it’s a daily commitment.
With over a decade of experience in the HR field, much of it as a consultant across diverse industries, I’ve witnessed first-hand how deeply harassment can affect individuals, disrupt teams, and erode workplace culture. I’ve also seen the powerful shift that happens when organisations choose to respond swiftly, fairly, and with compassion.
That’s why initiatives like “My Harassment-Free Ship” are so important to me. They reflect the core values we uphold at Linsen Nambi and the tangible systems we’ve built to protect our people, both at sea and onshore.
One of the key systems we’ve implemented is our Red Book initiative. Each of our vessels is equipped with a confidential Red Book, a logbook where crew members can record concerns related to harassment, safety, or general well-being. These entries are reviewed by the Master and monitored by our shore-based management team, ensuring that every concern is acknowledged, investigated, and resolved with zero tolerance for retaliation.
Our commitment to a safe and respectful work environment goes further. From an HR perspective, we’ve established a strong framework that includes:
- A Whistleblower Policy that guarantees anonymity and protection for those who come forward
- A Zero-Tolerance Harassment Policy that is actively enforced
- A clear Code of Ethics to guide expected behaviour
- A structured Grievance Policy to ensure transparency and fairness in resolving complaints
We reinforce these values through ongoing initiatives, from regular training sessions and toolbox talks to offboarding welfare check-ins, ensuring that these conversations remain active and meaningful.
It’s vital to recognise that harassment affects both men and women, and it can manifest in subtle or overt ways. Regardless of the form it takes, harassment is never acceptable. These issues must be addressed immediately and fairly. As leaders and colleagues, we each have a role to play in protecting the dignity of our workplace.
At Linsen Nambi, I’m proud to be part of a team that is actively building a culture of respect, trust, and accountability. Our vessels are more than places of work; they are floating communities. And in every community, people deserve to feel safe, valued, and empowered.
A harassment-free ship is not a privilege; it is a right.
